welcome!

Hello and welcome to my studio journal!  I'm so happy you stopped by!  This is the place to come to see what's new in my world.

I am a children and family photographer based out of Birmingham, Alabama.  I specialize mostly in natural light, and I have a natural light studio in historic downtown Homewood.  Some of my favorite things to do include searching for cool vintage fabrics and furniture, spending way too much time on Etsy's website, and spending way too much money in Anthropologie's store!  I am also drawn to beautiful design and modern, clean lines.  My biggest "loves" are children and photography, and I am so blessed to be able to combine those loves with my other interests to create art every day!  My style is contemporary, yet classic.   When I shoot, my goal is to capture the heart of my subject(s).

I hope that you will check in often to see what's going on in my world.  Bookmark me or add me to your google reader.  And I especially love to hear your comments!  Come back, and come back often.

Gorgeous Family Session (Birmingham Children’s Photography)

I have to say that this is one of my favorite family sessions ever.  I have known these children since there was only one of them, and it’s been an amazing five years getting to know all of them.  I was so excited when Mom scheduled a family snuggle session for the whole family.   We had a great time playing on the farm, and I had an even better time capturing their sweet relationships with one another.  And yes, I’m showing you a ton of pictures….but this is only a very small sampling of what I actually showed them!  :)

Little Andrew (Birmingham Newborn Photographer)

Has it really been over two weeks since my last post?    A lot has happened in those two weeks, so I hope that those of you who are still around to read this little blog of mine will understand.
On top of a crazy schedule of shooting, my husband celebrated his 40th birthday (which I had to make awesome for him…and yes, we are old!), we demolished a house & closed on our construction loan for our new one…..AND I moved out of my studio into a new one!  So, if you’ve driven through downtown Homewood and noticed that I’m no longer there, I am now located in my new studio just off Highland Avenue!  I’m very excited about the new studio…now, if only I could find time to decorate it and hang pictures.

Before I left my old space, I photographed sweet little Andrew, who was an absolute angel his entire session…meaning he slept through about 99% of it!  :)  Both of Andrew’s grandfathers were pilots, so we definitely had to do an aviation set…and I love how it turned out.  Welcome to the world, little Andrew!

Peyton (Birmingham Children’s Photographer)

I love weeds (notice I said “weeds” with an “s”).  I don’t think that men with mowers understand the beauty of weeds.  While I like to think of them as wildflowers….my husband sees them as a curse from God.  He likes his manly manicured yard.  Manicured is boring to me.   Men with lawnmowers mowing beautiful weeds make me sad.   Today as I left my beautiful weed garden, men with mowers stepped in behind to rob me of their beauty.  Here’s hoping the rain stopped them…at least for a while.

Last week, I decided to put together a few impromptu mini-sessions in my garden of weeds, and little Peyton came out to play.    We got so many gorgeous images from our short little time together….these are just a few of them.

Lorie Bradford - The pictures are beautiful Heather! I am so glad that we were able to get in for a mini session! Thanks so much for capturing our sweet "P" so beautifully!

Autumn - Heather these are some of my all time favorites of your work!!! Can't wait til our baby girl gets here and you capture her!!! <3

Introducing Baby Reese (Birmingham Newborn Photography)

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting sweet little Reese.  At just four days old, we assumed that she would snooze through her entire session.  Let’s just say that Reese had other things in mind!  :)  We got some great shots at our session, but we all wanted more.   So we got together a few days later for more pictures only to be met with a wide-awake Reese!   With a little coercing and patience, we managed to get some great sleeping shots!    I must have had a serious case of spring fever around the time that I did these pictures….

tina stinson - so beautiful! Love all the color Heather!
