We are so blessed to have awesome neighbors at the lake who also have some farm land right across the street from us that my family thoroughly enjoys visiting. On the farm they have several ponds (where each of my children caught their first fish), horses, an old saloon (yes, really!) and beautiful landscape everywhere you look. I’ve always thought this would be a perfect place to take pictures. Luckily for me, my neighbors also have twins! :) And even better, their mommy wanted me to take pictures of them. Without question, I knew that our session had to be done there. I had so much riding the “mule” and exploring the farm with the twins this weekend…..we could not have asked for better weather (and better behavior). What a perfect end to a perfect day on the lake. This may be my new favorite place for pictures….if only I could get my clients to make the hour long drive up! :)

Sweet Olivia (Birmingham Children’s Photographer)

I first met Olivia a little over six months ago when she came in for newborn photo session. She was an absolute angel, and I loved meeting her absolutely adorable family. When Mommy contacted me to do photos again, I was excited to have the chance to work with them again. Mommy was inspired by some pictures I had taken at my workshop earlier this summer, so we decided to try our own twist on those photos for Olivia. Let me just say that for 6 months (okay, she may be 7 months), Olivia is a TROOPER! Most babies this age have a difficult time being outside for long periods of time (or at least for pictures) and often get distracted by exciting things like dirt. :) But Olivia hung in there through a number of outfit/scenery changes and gave us some awesome shots! And fortunately, I was a little more exciting than dirt to her! She also brought along her big brother and her daddy for a few shots as well….

I was so glad to meet up with these sweet boys again this week and had a great time “exploring” with them. They didn’t have a whole ton of interest in me….but who could blame them when there was so much else to look at? When you are one and two, horses and tricycles and wagons are SOO much more interesting that an adult with a camera. Regardless, I think we walked away with some fabulous pictures!

I am so very blessed to be able to do what I do and to work with the families I photograph. I have been photographing this family for a few years now, although we’ve always focused on just the children in the past. When their mommy contacted me a few weeks ago, I knew that this time would be different. She has been dealing with some serious medical issues over the past few months, and I am sure that at this time her family is even nearer and dearer to her heart. We decided this time to really focus on her relationship with her family, and I was so touched by her sweet spirit and gentleness with her children. I am so thankful that we were able to take this time to capture the essence and beauty of her bond with her family (which, by the way, is something I think we as moms often neglect to take time to do for ourselves). I know that she has a long road ahead of her, but I also know that her positive attitude and her perseverance will guide her through. I am so grateful that I was able to spend a few precious moments with such a beautiful and loving family.

So, I know that the sun flare was a little more intense that I intended here, but I still love this picture….

This is another hot and steamy session from a couple of weeks ago that was done exceptionally early in the morning when it was, well, still hot and steamy! Regardless of the heat, I had a blast catching up with this sweet family. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing them for about 4 or 5 years now, when Greta (the oldest) showed up for her session with Mommy’s mascara smeared ALL over her face (note to Mommys: don’t leave your purse next to your child’s car seat in route to her photo session!). These children have grown right before my eyes, even adding another along the way. Baby boy wasn’t much on being still, or held, but then again, who is at 16 months??

Penelope (Birmingham Newborn Photographer)

Almost exactly two years ago, I had the extreme privilege of photographing my first set of triplet newborns, and I have so enjoyed every single time I have spent with them since. Last week, I met their beautiful baby sister, and I took on the challenge of getting three 2-year olds to pose not injure be still and look slightly interested in the newest member of their family. They accepted my challenge and by far exceeded all of my expectations! Funny thing is that they always do!

Penelope could not have been born into a more loving and adorable family. It has been such an honor getting to know them, and I look forward to watching Penelope grow just have I her siblings.

Hot Day on the Farm!

Thirty minutes before this session started, it was still 101 degrees….and for some reason, I was wearing jeans. Not.Very.Smart. Despite the fact that 5 minutes into the session, I was drenched in sweat and my jeans were completely stuck to my body, this family managed to still look beautiful for the whole hour and a half that we shot (and I might add, that it was 94 degrees when we finished). I had so much fun meeting this sweet family a couple of weeks ago! Shooting four kids can be a challenge, but they made it a lot of fun!
